When Downloads Don't Work (And What To Do About It)

Nothing is more frustrating than finding the perfect video, pasting the link, and getting an error. I get it. Before you rage-close the browser, let me walk you through the 10 most common issues and their fixes.

I've personally encountered every single one of these, so trust me — there's almost always a simple solution.

Error 1: 'Invalid URL' or 'URL Not Recognized'

The fix: Double-check that you copied the complete URL. Sometimes mobile apps copy shortened links or add tracking parameters that confuse the parser.

Try opening the link in a browser first. If it plays correctly, copy the URL directly from the browser's address bar and paste that into VidSaveo.

Error 2: 'No Formats Found'

This usually means the content is private, deleted, or age-restricted. Try opening the link in a private/incognito browser window. If you can't see the video without logging in, the downloader can't access it either.

Error 3: Download Starts But Stops Halfway

Almost always an internet connection issue. Switch from mobile data to Wi-Fi (or vice versa). If you're on a public Wi-Fi with a captive portal, that can interrupt downloads too.

For large files (100MB+), a stable Wi-Fi connection is strongly recommended.

Error 4: File Downloads But Won't Play

This is rare but happens. The most common cause is an incomplete download (see Error 3). Delete the file and re-download.

If the file is in WebM format and your device doesn't support it, try selecting MP4 format instead — it's universally compatible.

Error 5: Video Plays In Browser Instead Of Downloading

This is a browser behavior, not a VidSaveo issue. Right-click (or long-press on mobile) the download button and select 'Save Link As' or 'Download Linked File'. This forces a download instead of playback.

Error 6: Download Is Very Slow

Download speed depends on three factors: your internet speed, the platform's CDN speed, and server load. VidSaveo itself doesn't limit download speeds.

If downloads are consistently slow, try: downloading at a different time of day (off-peak hours), using a different browser, or choosing a lower resolution to reduce file size.

Error 7: 'Rate Limited' or 'Too Many Requests'

If you're downloading many videos in quick succession, platforms may temporarily block requests. Wait 10-15 minutes and try again. This is a platform-side protection, not a VidSaveo limit.

Error 8: Instagram/TikTok Link Doesn't Work

Ensure you're copying the direct post link, not a shared link from a messaging app. Shared links sometimes wrap the original URL in a redirect that confuses the parser.

For Instagram: the link should contain 'instagram.com/p/' or 'instagram.com/reel/'. For TikTok: it should contain 'tiktok.com/@username/video/'.

Error 9: Downloaded File Has No Audio

Some high-resolution options (especially on YouTube) are video-only streams. Check if VidSaveo shows a note like 'video only'. Choose a format that includes audio, or select a combined audio+video option.

Error 10: Mobile Download Location Unknown

  • iPhone: Check Files app > Downloads folder, or look in the Safari downloads manager (tap the blue arrow icon in the URL bar).
  • Android: Check Downloads folder in your file manager, or look in the notification panel for the download completion notification.
  • If multiple browsers are installed, the file goes to whichever browser you used for the download.

Still Having Issues?

If none of these fixes solve your problem, try clearing your browser cache, using a different browser, or using an incognito window. Platform-side issues typically resolve within a few hours as the platforms update their systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do some videos fail to download?+

The most common reasons are: private/deleted content, incorrect links, age-restricted videos, and temporary platform-side issues. Check the specific error message for guidance.

Can I report a broken download?+

Yes. You can reach out through VidSaveo's contact page with the URL that's not working and the error you're seeing. We'll investigate.

Do I need to update my browser for downloads to work?+

Using an updated browser is always recommended. Older browsers may have issues with modern download features and security protocols.

Why is the same video working on desktop but not mobile?+

Mobile browsers handle downloads differently than desktop browsers. Try using Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android, and avoid clicking download links from within social media app browsers.
